what were your RESPONSIBILITIES as an intern?
I was a Technology Risk Intern at EY, where I focused on evaluating cybersecurity risks for Fortune 500 clients within the SAP application group. During my internship, I gained exposure to clients across the Consumer Goods and Technology, Media & Entertainment, and Telecommunications sectors. My responsibilities included conducting IT Application Control and IT General Control risk assessments, preparing SOX compliance control testing reports, and assisting in the development of high-level Cybersecurity Product Placemats to help clients understand emerging security solutions and possible cybersecurity threats. I also supported the documentation and evaluation of process walkthroughs, identified control gaps, and provided recommendations to strengthen IT governance and compliance frameworks.”
What was your favorite/most memorable part of your internship
My favorite part of the internship was connecting with fellow interns from across the country, all interning in the NYC office. I built meaningful relationships with peers from Texas, to South Carolina, Georgia, and even California, which made the experience even more rewarding. EY fostered this sense of community by hosting intern events that combined professional development with fun. Outside of work, I also enjoyed exploring the city with my fellow interns, which made the summer both memorable and fulfilling.
Walk us through a day in the life of your internship?
Typically I would arrive at the office around 8:00-8:30 AM depending if I have a team connect or not. After connection with my senior and manager, I would continue to finish up what I was working on the day before or start my new tasks. Usually around 9:45/10 I would find someone to go get coffee with and try out a new place near the office. After coming back and working for a few more hours, me and the other interns would go and get/eat lunch on the 1 Manhattan West balcony. After getting back from lunch, there was usually an intern event to attend but if not I would continue working on my tasks. Typically in the afternoon I would join walkthrough meetings with the clients to assist in taking notes and identifying risks within the systems we were using. Finally, I would leave the office around 5-5:30 PM, walk the 20 minutes back to my apartment, relax for a bit, and then head back out to explore a new place for dinner or buy some ingredients to cook.
